What does the program do?
Kar2ouche supports skills across a range of different curriculum areas by providing interactive activities for children. Alternatively it allows children to:
  • compose pictures, storyboards, animations, publications or movies by adding characters, backgrounds and props
  • record voices and add sound effects
  • create and import images
  • share work as QuickTime movies or editable Kar2ouche files.

What age range can it be used for?

Although Kar2ouche suggests that its resources can be used across all Key Stages, we believe that due to the navigational features of the program it is more suitable for children from Key Stage 2 and above. However, Key Stage 1 students could use this resource but we would suggest it would be done under supervision or in a small group or used as a teaching as opposed to a independent learning tool.

The basic functionality of the program

The University's subscription to Kar2ouche is subject specific to History - Ancient Greeks, therefore it is relatively limited as to what it can be used for. However in school different editions are available to be purchased so it can be tailored to the needs of the school's individual curriculum.

Ease of use

It is imperative to refer to the guide when learning how to navigate within this programme, therefore when using this with children they would have to be given time to learn the functions of the program or under the supervision of a knowledgeable user. The Kar2ouche series all follow the same format, so once children have been given input into it's functionality, they can apply these skills to other editions.

Curriculum Areas
Whilst it develops children's understanding of different topics/ subject areas it is also provides development of generic skills which can be applied across the curriculum and in children's everyday lives. For example:

  • sort the relevant from the irrelevant and extract what is essential
  • sequence events, organise and prioritise ideas

  • consider alternative perspectives, interpretations and allusion
  • observe events and predict subsequent action

  • reflect critically on text, their own work and the work of peers
